Fact of the Day (and more)

  • The earliest form of English is called Old English or Anglo-Saxon(c. 550–1066 CE). Ironically, English did not originate from England. English is a West-Germanic Language originating near Germany. The English Language belongs to the Indo-European Language Family which also includes Spanish, French, Italian, Hindi, and even our Maldivian (Dhivehi Language). The fact that English and Dhivehi languages belong to the same Language Family is probably why it is easy for many Maldivians to learn English fast or at a young age.
